IMG_2746Fun fact. Did you know that in Islam, there is a special prayer for eclipses? In addition to the five daily prayers all Muslims are required to do, on lunar/solar eclipses there is an extra mandatory prayer. I found this out yesterday when one of my classes was cancelled for sholat gerhana (eclipse prayer). All the boys gathered in the mosque, and I took the opportunity to walk around, take photos, and ask   questions to other teachers. The eclipse prayer is slightly different than ordinary prayers–the main difference that I noticed was that the “roka’at” (the motion, the physical of praying) are counted differently–I’m going to butcher the correct terms here, but put as simply as I can, the “crouching” portion of the prayer motions is done every “roka’at” rather than every other “roka’at” as is normally done in prayers.
